CAGED BIRD ZINE

TYPOGRAPHY
PUBLICATION
Maya Angelou’s poem, “Caged Bird” is used to design a zine. The poem tells the story of two birds as an allegory to the issues of social injustice. Two distinct layouts are used to highlight the differences between the two birds: one more free flowing and the other more constrained. A recurring swash is seen on every spread and could be interpretted as a wing, unifying the differing layouts. A light sky texture is added to the background, adding to the bird-like imagery.
